Hey guys, just a quick note to say that the section for yesterday will be coming as soon as possible... your mods have gotten a bit delayed. Sorry about the wait, and I hope you're all having a nice November! It's raining here... *sigh* Oh well.

Anyway, yes, the last two books of Volume III are on their way. Stay tuned! :-)

Hope you all had a great Halloween! And for those of us who have embarked upon the month of NaNoWriMo... well, good luck, is all I can say. ;-P

Here's today's notes -- I pulled out my Gavroche icon specially for the occasion. :-D

Paris has a child, and the forest has a bird; the bird is called the sparrow; the child is called the gamin.Collapse )

I also wanted to let you all know that I am SO EXCITED for the next section, which is Books Four, Five, and Six of Volume III, for Monday, November 6. It's going to be a good one. Don't miss it... :-D

Hello again, all. This is just to remind you that today, Monday, October 30, is another official catch-up day. If you're a bit behind, what better way to spend Halloween than reading some gripping chapters of Les Misérables? :-D

The next discussion post will be Thursday, November 2 and will cover Books One, Two, and Three of Volume III: Marius. See you then!

With no ado whatsoever, I present the next two books in Volume II.

A faith is a necessity to a man. Woe to him who believes in nothing.Collapse )

Aww. ♥ Anyway, I know some of the last few readings have been a bit difficult to get through, because they've been dry/historical or philosophical/theoretical, but I hope you're still hanging in there. Please, even if you're having troubles keeping up, leave a comment and let us know you're still around.

Scheduling Note: Because we've reached the end of Volume II (hurrah!), we're going to be having another catch-up day for Monday, October 30, so there will be no discussion post on that day. If you're behind in the reading, please use this time to read to the end of the second volume. We're now over a third of the way through the book, so it's only going to be harder to catch up as time goes on. We'd also love it if you wanted to contribute to any of the discussions in the past few weeks that you might have missed. :-)

Hope you're all enjoying the reading so far, and have a nice weekend! :-D

Hope you all had a nice weekend and are enjoying the last week of October! :-) And, with no further ado, today's reading:

Truly at that instant, if Jean Valjean had had a kingdom, he would have given it for a rope.Collapse )

Reminder: the reading for this Thursday, October 26 is Books Seven and Eight of Volume II. Happy reading! :-D

In today's section, we return to Jean Valjean and learn what happens to him after the death of Fantine.

When the eye sees darkness, the mind sees trouble.Collapse )

Reminder: our next section for Monday, October 23 will be Books Four, Five, and Six of Volume II.

Welcome back to the discussion posts! Did you miss us? ;-) Hope you're all having a fun and educational experience with the reading so far and that you're a bit more caught-up, if you'd fallen behind. So here we go, diving right into Volume II, Book One: Waterloo!

Waterloo is not a battle; it is the changing face of the universe.Collapse )

In the next section (Books Two and Three, for Thursday, October 19), the narrative returns to Jean Valjean, and we'll find out what happens to him after his narrow escape from Javert at the end of the first volume.

Slight schedule adjustment

Since we have some people at different stages of the reading yet, we're taking a short break from our reading to allow everyone a bit of time to catch up if they haven't yet. No discussion will be posted on Thursday, October 12. Instead, please consider the rest of this week a time to catch up, if you're a bit behind, or to join in on discussions you may have missed, if there's anything that you want to say about the earlier chapters. If you're on schedule, we should now be finished with Volume I: Fantine, and ready to move on to Volume II: Cosette.

The next discussion post, on Book One of Volume II, will be posted next Monday, October 16. :-)
